Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 yearly — the significance being the first three digits of the mathematical constant pi, 3.14.

Pi defines the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and is an irrational number that goes on infinitely in a seemingly random sequence. The first recognized Pi Day celebration was hosted in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw at the San Francisco Exploratorium, and the U.S. House of Representatives formally recognized Pi Day in March 2009.
A recent study showed that Detroit was ranked the number one pizza city in America. According to Google search trends, Detroiters appreciated a wider variety of pizza styles compared to the rest of the country. The average distance to a pizzeria was 1.58 miles, and has roughly double the number of independent pizzerias per 100,000 residents — six in Detroit, compared to the 3.1 nationwide average. Buddy's Pizza innovated the Detroit style pizza: thick, savory square crust with crispy cheese, topped with sauce. The Motor City also ranked in the top ten for best prices of pepperoni pizza at an average of $7.54 per slice.
While many Pi Day celebrations typically involve pies, due to the similar pronunciation of the words, several pizza places have observed the holiday and offer deals on pizza pies. Check out these deals to save on some slices!
